It's been a while since I've last posted anything of note. I spent the summer resting and recuperating. Taking a step back after my exams and everything else helped immensely and I've been doing better overall.
One thing I promised myself is that I'd work on bettering myself and learn new skills. What surprised me is that I ended up gravitating towards 3D modeling. I had no interest in 3D before and preferred drawing art. On the other hand, I'm not that surprised. Building sets was one of my favorite tasks in the past, so the idea of putting something together was very much attractive. I ended up purchasing a few Udemy courses, installed Blender and began my journey.
Most of the lectures so far centered around learning the interface. Coming off Unity, customizing my layout and moving the camera around in an editor felt familiar. One of my challenges was to put something together using basic meshes, so here's my attempt at my first creation:

At this point I didn't realize you can drag objects along the axes (just like Unity), so one lecture later I made a second attempt at modeling something. I decided to go big and modeled my desktop computer + desk!

It took me about 3 hours to create the above. It's really cool to see how your idea comes to life piece by piece. Making the desk was my favorite part. I cut corners on the keyboard because I didn't want to add ~100 keys, even with duplication involved. I was eager to get the rest of the set done and not spend so much time on one set piece. I tried modeling my mouse but I couldn't get it to look right, so I scrapped it and kept the mousepad.
I really like how the final result turned out. I'm excited to learn more and get better at using Blender!
